About Our Youth Development Program

Mission

It is the mission of Neighborhood Centers of Corpus Christi to provide the youth of the community ages 7 thru 18 with opportunities that are led by positive role models in events and programs that create positive self-esteem, fosters a growth in leadership skills, and empowers them to become productive and competent adults who demonstrate service to the community.

 

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Neighborhood Centers provides Youth Development Services thru recreation and amateur sports programs that help foster leadership skills, provide a safe environment for the children attending, and help strengthen family unity. These programs are based out of two centers that house unique facilities geared at providing distinct services to all the youth of the Coastal Bend. In accordance with Federal Law, NCCC is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, and religion.
 

MOLINA NEIGHBORHOOD CENTERS

Since it’s construction in 1963, Molina Neighborhood Centers has housed a variety of youth recreation programs that have included

1.) Summer Recreation Programs with lunch and snacks provided
2.) Family Fitness Classes in the evening
3.) Self Defense Classes in the evening
4.) ESL classes
5.) Boy Scout Partnerships
6.) Summer Camping Trips to the Texas Hill Country (Since 1952).
7.) Pickup Basketball )Evenings)

These programs are all aimed at youth of the Coastal Bend with the idea of creating a safe and positive environment for them while encouraging leadership skills that will convert to improved life skills in the future. This, in turn, will help develop productive and competent adults who are more likely demonstrate service to the community for the next generation of youth.

GOLLIHAR NEIGHBORHOOD CENTERS

In 2001, the property at was bought 3333 Gollihar which included a “Quanset Hut” gym constructed in the 1940’s. Along with the gym , NCCC also inherited a Boxing Club that was run by Richard Rodriguez. The purpose of the club is to train young men and women in the art of amateur and recreational boxing in accordance with the rules, regulations and guidance of the U. S. National Amateur Boxing Association. The club operates under the direct oversight, direction and control of the Executive Director of Neighborhood Centers with guidance from the NCCC Board of Directors. This program fosters a gang, smoke and drug free environment for its participants and facilities.
